Hurting

I've spent the entire day in bed, in terrible pain and unable to eat or drink anything much. I am grateful to have the new netbook which allows me to log into the internet at times like this, when I usually can't keep in touch. It helps to have the support and friendship of the blogging and chronically ill communities, especially when things aren't going so well. I am trying to keep myself from focusing on the pain by watching tv, reading and thinking about writing. Sometimes the pain is so bad I can't focus on much else, but the more I focus on other things, the sooner this too shall pass (I hope!).

I feel for you, Maureen. Similarly, I've had the roughest weekend I've had in months, although my ailment is dizziness rather than pain. Your post reminded me how much I'm bolstered by the chronically ill blogs to which I subscribe. Even though our particular circumstances are radically different, our link is some sort of suffering. Anyone that is not battling a chronic illness would probably say that "suffering" is too harsh a word; those of us going through it know it's quite an accurate description. I was wondering how you keep your positive perspective that "this too shall pass" ??? Whenever I have a really bad period of dizziness, especially since we're unsure of the cause, I must really focus on avoiding thoughts that it will last forever. I try to tell myself that based on past experience, it will diminish, but my dizziness brings out fear ... which brings out anxiety ... which they tell me can bring on the dizziness. A dangerous loop, I'm afraid. Hopefully you'll be feeling better very soon. It's times like this that it's comforting to focus on enjoyable activities that serve as a distraction for us during our challenging times ...

Hi Maureen, I'm not sure what a netbook is but glad you now have one. It can be tough because when we most need to connect with online support is often when we aren't able to get to a regular computer or even hold up our laptops. Is a "netbook" smaller and lighter than a laptop?

So sorry you are in pain and having a hard time keeping food and water down...

I too often use the good ole "boob tube" to focus on when pain and symptoms are too consuming to focus on anything else. I think often of cancelling Cable to save money, but find tv is a real help when my bod doesn't let me do anything else...gives something for the mind to concentrate on.

I am so sorry Maureen that you are in so much pain. I have been there so often myself and it is so challenging and exhausting. Being in pain takes so much energy from us. I, too read and watch alot of tv to distract myself.
I don't know what your pain is from for sure, but would epsom salt baths help you at all? It pulls the lactic acid out of the muscles where pain stays. Sometimes it helps alot other times not so much.
Gentle hugs
Renee

Hi. I just found your blog through Stephanie's Written Word.

You are dealing with so much. I am so sorry about that.

I suffered through years(at least 20) of debilitating pain due to Stage IV endometriosis so I know a small part of what you are going through. I also have IBS, which is more of a huge inconvenience than it is painful for me.

Thankfully 2 years ago I had a hysterectomy that completely alleviated my pain but I will never forget how isolated and alone I felt when I had to call in sick and lie in bed for sometimes days at a time.

I hope you are able to find some relief for at least some of your ailments. I feel for you.
